Starting your tooth whitening treatment with Dunedin Clinic in Exeter
Your dentist will perform a full dental examination to identify any potential areas of sensitivity, including any exposed dentine. It is recommended to undergo dental polishing and scaling before whitening.
For each cycle of use, the first use can ONLY be carried out by dental practitioners, or under their direct supervision, if an equivalent level of safety is ensured.
After completing the examination, we will take impressions and manufacture a custom tray. We will also record the starting shade with a high-quality photograph to track your progress and ensure the best results. Our team will advise you on how to load and correctly use your trays, and answer any questions you may have.
How to use your whitening trays
Once you have your custom whitening trays, only fill a small labial reservoir per tooth, and only whiten teeth visible in the smile. If there is no reservoir, place a small bead on the front side of the tooth halfway up the tooth. Our team will demonstrate how to remove any excess gel if there is any.
Recommended wear times for whitening trays
The recommended wear time for 6% hydrogen peroxide is 1.5 hours per day. For 6%, 10%, and 16% carbamide peroxide and hybrid pro, wear them for a minimum of 6 hours per day (overnight). Our most popular tooth whitening treatments are administered overnight to achieve optimal results with minimal sensitivity.
How long does the tooth whitening treatment take?
The length of treatment will vary. Almost all patients can expect to achieve whiter teeth, but the duration may differ depending on their starting shade and the type of staining.
All that’s left to know is how to look after your new, brighter, whiter smile!
After your tooth whitening treatment, we will thoroughly examine your teeth to ensure that they are in good health and to assess the level of whitening that has been achieved. We will take photographs using an original shade tab to demonstrate the results of the treatment. In addition, we will provide detailed instructions on how to maintain your newly whitened teeth, including tips on oral hygiene and dietary choices. We will also offer advice on how to minimize staining and discolouration so that you can enjoy your beautiful smile for as long as possible.
